In this paper an optimal integral controller is proposed for load frequency control problem of multi-area electrical power system. The design of optimal controller uses modern optimal control theory. A state model of a four-area interconnected power system is developed. The dynamic analyses have been done without controller, with integral controller and with optimal integral controllers using Matlab Simulink/Workspace. Further a comparison between some recent trend controllers and proposed optimal integral
