In this paper, algorithms to estimate narrowband to broadband albedo (NBBA) of snow using Advanced Wide Field Sensor (AWiFS) and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer (MODIS) sensor images have been developed for Indian western Himalayan region. The in-situ measurements of spectral reflectance and transmitted spectral solar irradiance on snow surface by spectroradiometer have been used to calibrate and validate the algorithms developed. The AWiFS and MODIS derived snow broadband albedo via the developed algorithms have been validated with in-situ observations at three field locations. An RMSE better than 0.03 and an R^(2 ) value of 0.94 and 0.88 between modeled and observed albedo values have been obtained for AWiFS and MODIS respectively. The algorithm developed for MODIS images has also been compared with an existing global albedo model for MODIS, and the results from the proposed model have been found to be in agreement with the published model.
