Analytic method and finite element method (FEM) are adopted to analyze the effect of slot opening on eddy current loss of permanent magnet in Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor (PMSM) applied on electric vehicle; Analytic method, which introduces a param eter considering width of stator slot, is used to determine this influence qualitatively, A 2D finite element model , which references to an existing 200kw PMSM, is built to calculate the eddy current loss by time- stepping finite element method. The results indicate that eddy current of permanent magnet declines with the decreasing of slot opening, providing the theoretical basis for design of PMSM applied on electric vehicle.
