Electronic workflow systems have been widely used in higher education institutions for daily administration and operation. During the implementation of electronic workflow systems, a big challenge is to improve and streamline the process flows while meeting all business requirements. Technical limitations and managerial constraints should also be addressed and accommodated. This paper investigates the implementation of electronic workflow systems in higher education institutions. Technical steps, such as process review, workflow design and re-design, are described and illustrated with an example. Issues and challenges are discussed.
